On May 18, 1958, Dr. Yonggi Cho founded the Yoido Full Gospel Church with only five members.  Following the traditional Pentecostal denomination (Assemblies of God), he established the church which would become the largest church in the world within fifty years, with a membership of 780,000.

The Assemblies of God of Korea Yoido General Council had its inaugural meeting at the Yoido Full Gospel Church on May 19, 2009.  With a total of 587 churches, and over 1 million memberships (including the Yoido Full Gospel Church), they declared the beginning of their independent general council during a plenary session and passed a resolution to do their best to unify the Assemblies of God denominations in Korea.

The Assemblies of God of Korea Yoido General Council is solely engaged in the expansion of the Pentecostal movement, focusing on winning souls through the Fivefold Gospel and Threefold Blessing.  In addition, Yoido General Council concentrates on fulfilling the Lord’s command to spread the Gospel and evangelize the nation and the whole world, as well as to practice the love of Jesus and service for society through the “Sharing Love and Happiness Foundation.”
